Almost all issues, physical or emotional, can be healed through energy work—even physical pain that’s connected with an emotional block. Master Energy Healer Benson Simmonds marries energy work with divine Hebrew symbols to harness the power of the universe and heal his clients. Whether body or mind, what it comes down to is unconditional love.

In a way, many of us have lost our sense of power. We’re mostly driven by our ego, based on fear and the thought “I’m not good enough”, something which is endlessly confirmed by the media. While this is our default system, we can choose to be driven by our soul, which is based on joy, love and expansion. Benson’s book Soular Power teaches us how to open up to the divine flow to allow more love to come in.

You can book an energy healing session with Benson through Suzy’s new business Mary Jane’s Mobile Massage, a fabulous new venture offering CBD-infused massages from the comfort of your own home.

Glenn Livingston, Ph.D. is a veteran psychologist and was the long time CEO of a multi-million dollar consulting firm which has serviced several Fortune 500 clients in the food industry. You may have seen his (or his company's)  previous work, theories, and research in major periodicals like The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Sun Times, The Indiana Star Ledger, The NY Daily News, American Demographics, or any of the other major media outlets you see on this page.  You may also have heard him on ABC, WGN, and/or CBS radio, or UPN TV.

Disillusioned by what traditional psychology had to offer overweight and/or food obsessed individuals, Dr. Livingston spent several decades researching the nature of bingeing and overeating via work with his own patients AND a self-funded research program with more than 40,000 participants.  Most important, however, was his own personal journey out of obesity and food prison to a normal, healthy weight and a much more lighthearted relationship with food.

Let’s be honest, almost all of us have shopped at a fast fashion outlet at one point or other, for that last minute party outfit or a quick shopping fix. But often these clothes last all of a day, disintegrating after one wash. They may be cheap, but they’ve got a heavy ethical and ecological cost: made in sweatshops, laced with lead, they quickly end up on landfill sites. Is it possible to be fashionistas with a conscience? YES! As a vegetarian and now vegan, Sugandh Agrawal knew she didn’t want to wear animal byproducts and set about finding an alternative. Leather, while known the world over for being “luxurious”, is a dirty industry—not just cruel to animals, but cruel to the people who work with it, and the environment. The journey to launching an ethical fashion brand wasn’t easy—she had to find different materials and artisans willing to work with them, not to mention finding factories that treat workers fairly. But it was worth it! In 2009 she launched GUNAS New York, our favorite, 100% vegan, 100% sweatshop-free, 100% eco-friendly handbag brand, voted Most Ethical Brand by the Ethical Fashion Forum. You don’t have to compromise on style—you can be fashion forward and fashion conscious.  Sugandh wants to show the world a vegan lifestyle isn’t bland. It’s as fun, vibrant and colorful as the GUNAS handbags. Maura Knowles lay on the operating table, awake. A routine procedure that should have taken a few minutes had turned into a life-threatening operation. She was only 20. Everything that could have gone wrong in hospital, did—pancreatitis, infections, misdiagnoses, you name it. She survived not one near death experience, but two! Her fighting Irish spirit and the support of her family pulled her through. Twenty years on, she’s turning these dramas into a musical comedy “Insult to Injury.” She’s not the only strong survivor in her family. Her father survived a quadruple by-pass. He was put on an incredibly restrictive diet—no sugar, no salt, no treats. Knowing from experience how crappy it feels to be without any kind of comfort food, Maura set out to create something healthy and delicious that her father could enjoy. MacnMo’s Morselicious Treats were born. Gluten-free, sugar-free, GMO-free, soy-free, preservative-free, salt-free and delicious, these morsels can now be found in over 30 stores nationwide. Maura is also an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, helping people change the way they eat—but it’s not about restriction, it’s about having real, tasty, satisfying food. Maura advocates eating clean and green 85% of the time, and giving yourself 15% wiggle room. Her 21-day detox incorporates exercise, social activities, and the things you love—yes, even wine. Thanksgiving is all about being grateful, and at no time is this more important than in the face of the negativity, hate and division that the election result symbolizes. So far, we’ve kept to health topics, but today, Food Heals Nation, we’re going political. It’s a frightening time—the new president elect stands for racism, anti-feminism, anti-human-rights, war. Many of us no longer feel safe; we feel anxious and scared.

But we don’t have to feel this way. Suzie shares one method that works for her: the Sedona Method. Started by Lester Levenson in the 50’s, it works on the principle of letting go of negative beliefs, habits and patterns to free yourself from psychological discomfort and come back to the present moment—where we are most peaceful, and most powerful. Check out their website to learn more, or reach out to Suzie on our FB Group. We’ll dedicate an entire episode to this topic very soon!

We also introduce our fabulous new podcast producer, Foxy Roxy—a full time music producer and sound engineer, and “Trump supporters’ worst nightmare.”

What organizations and charities are you involved in? How can we be there for each other and the communities that are fighting for their voice? Let’s support one another. We want to hear your voice Food Heals Nation: share your thoughts on our FB group!

Wishing you all a happy, healthy, harmonious Thanksgiving. Be present, be mindful, and love xxx

Tired of conflicting and confusing health information? In this episode, nutritionist and fellow podcaster Alexa Schirm debunks some common health myths. Discover the truth about artificial sweeteners, and how to restore your metabolic function and balance your hormones without going on a diet!

Let’s face it, 98% of diets fail. Why? Mindset and misinformation. Diets are short term fixes based on restriction. But while we’re afraid of calories, not getting enough actually does more harm than good in the long term—so much so that today’s guest, Alexa Schirm, would rather people be overfed on the right foods than underfed on anything. But nutrition is only one part of the bigger picture that makes up perfect health. It’s also about mindset, accepting who you are, and going for your dreams.

Alexa Schirm is the force behind Simple Roots Wellness, a website dedicated to helping you find a healthy balance. With a BA in Nutrition and Masters in Health Studies, Alexa is passionate about simplifying complex matters and giving you the raw, unedited, simple truth about health and what the body needs to thrive. She’s also a fellow podcaster with her show Simple Roots Radio, where she interviews experts and everyday people on health and wellness strategies.

Jasmine Briones, the creator of The Sweet Simple Vegan, has dedicated her life to inspiring others to choose health. A Los Angeles-based nutrition student, Jasmine is a recipe creator and plant-based wellness blogger that works to promote nutrition, fitness, and self-love.

Jasmine struggled with an eating disorder in college and used veganism to mask that to her friends and family. After being confronted by her loved ones that she was too thin and looked unhealthy, Jasmine did some research about veganism, and she learned that she needed to change her relationship with food and with herself.

Today Jasmine is a healthy vegan and a healthy weight and wants to spread the message of what she learned: to love yourself and to nourish that same self with a plant-based diet.

How many of us keep ourselves in the dark when it comes to where our food comes from? We turn the other way because we don’t want to learn about male chicks being tossed into a grinder because they’re not “profitable”, we don’t want to see pigs suffering and immobile in their tiny birthing pens. But thanks to the work of animal activists and organizations like the Humane Society, more and more people are waking up to these practices and opting to go plant-based.

We met Lauren Pitts at the amazing Humane Society Annual Gala, where we bonded over animal welfare, celebrities and all things plant-based!

Lauren always had a passion for animals, but she also ate them. Then three years ago she decided to stop keeping herself in the dark about where her food was coming from. After watching video by Dr. Melanie Joy, she threw her lunch in the trash, and embarked on plant-based lifestyle. But she doesn’t stop at her own diet: through her work with the Humane Society, she’s getting plant based meals into schools, universities and hospitals!

Cows can live to 20 years old, but they will be slaughtered by the time they’re 3. And then we eat them. Yet we can completely survive on plant based foods. For Lauren, the easiest, cheapest, best thing to do for the environment and animals is to reduce your meat consumption. Try a Meatless Monday, or go plant-based a couple of days a week, or be vegan before 6pm – whatever works for you. Just go for it, give it a try – you might surprise yourself.

We’re also joined by surprise guest Kari Jean Glosser, a certified financial planner and adviser who’s recently joined the plant-based movement. She’s 3 months into her plant-based lifestyle and loving it!

Quintessence ("Tess") Challis began her holistic health journey in her late teens. After a lifetime of numerous health ailments (including acne, obesity, strep throat, constant illnesses, anxiety, and depression), she found that a vegan diet along with an "inner wellness regime" of meditation and visualization literally made a world of difference.

In 1994, she began sharing this knowledge through cooking classes, catering, meditation classes, and workshops. She has also been a personal chef to many clients across the United States.

In 2009, Tess published the 2nd edition of Radiant Health, Inner Wealth, a vegan cookbook and complete holistic health resource. Tess's second book, The Two-Week Wellness Solution: The Fast Track to Permanent Weight Loss and Vitality, was released in June 2010 and includes a foreword by Dr. Neal Barnard. Her latest book, Radiance 4 Life: The 4 Cornerstones of Ultimate Vitality, was just published in June 2011 and includes a foreword by Robert Cheeke.

Over the last 20 years Tess has worked as a wellness coach, a chef, a caterer, workshop leader, speaker, writer and of course, a mom.

Megan never looked or felt unhealthy. In fact, she looked like the epidome of health even though she lived on burgers and junk food.

When she had a chance encounter with vegan activist and NBA star John Salley, he encouraged her to go vegan and change her lifestyle.

This is when Megan discovered the awful truth- she had parasites inside of her after a life of poor food choices. Together John guided Megan through a long and intense detoxification process so she could reclaim her health!

This is one of the craziest stories we have ever told on the podcast so buckle up (if you’re driving) and get ready for this amazing tale.

And, on this episode we have guest co-host, Eco-vegan gal Whitney Lauritsen. Mashable named her one of the Top 75 Environmentalists to Follow on Twitter, and she was included in NBC New York’s list of Top 10 Eco Hotties on Twitter.

Jay and Joy are the dream team behind the Jing Slingers. If you’ve ever wondered how to use superfoods and tonics to supercharge your health, this is the episode for you! Go from surviving to thriving and discover the Jing Slingers’ secrets to being vibrant, juicy, and full of life!

Allison and her favorite guest co-host Eco Vegan Gal Whitney Lauritsen interview Joy Coelho and Jay Denman. Together Joy and Jay are the amazing team behind Jing Slingers, and authors of a fantastic new book Foods with Benefits.

Joy is literally glowing—we couldn’t believe she’s nearly 60! But she wasn’t always this way. She used to weight nearly 300 pounds, had high blood pressure and felt miserable. When an energetic healer found a tumor on one of her ovaries, she threw herself into holistic medicine. Now, she takes no meds, she feels amazing, has “a rockin’ libido” (and we all want one of those, right ladies?) and feels fitter and healthier than she was at 35.

Jay is a writer, speaker and yogi. He suffered with heart palpitations in his early 20s, but refused the prescription meds in favor of a holistic approach. He’s spent the last 15 years studying yoga, self-development and the power of tonic herbs. Working in Tonic bars all over the world, Jay has crafted over 50,000 custom elixirs to help his clients detoxify from the heavy burden our artificial world puts on our bodies.

Everyone is welcome at Joy and Jay’s table, whether you’re vegan, paleo, omnivore, vegetarian, gluten-free, and their recipes can be adapted to all needs. Their book, Food with Benefits, is packed with cleverly comforting foods that will elevate you and your health. And we can testify to them being absolutely divine (we tasted them and…. OMG!).

What you’ll discover:

  • What to do to recharge your DNA.
  • The difference between tonic herbs and medicinal herbs.
  • How our artificial environment impacts our health.
  • How to grow money (really!)
  • A food you can grow in just ten days.
  • How to source herbs on a budget.
  • The healthiest coffee to drink.
  • Plus a really juicy beauty tip…

In his role overseeing efforts to pass state laws and corporate policies, he works with lawmakers and major food retailers alike to implement animal welfare reforms in the agricultural industry.
