We all want to be beautiful. But at what cost? A conventional lipstick might make us pretty for the day, but the buildup of toxic ingredients can have devastating long-term effects on our health. And what about the cost to animals? Each year, up to a million dogs, rabbits and mice are tortured and die because of our self-care products.

Ericka Rodriguez had worn the same mascara for 10 years before she read the ingredients label and discovered the dark side of her make-up. But finding fun, colorful, organic, vegan and cruelty free alternatives was tough. So she decided to make her own: Axiology was born.

Where most lipsticks contain upwards of 23 ingredients, Axiology lipsticks contain around 10, with no scary chemicals in sight. Her products are made from things most of us have in our kitchens or bathrooms: avocado butter, coconut oil, calendula wax, neem oil, elderberry extract. Better still, the packaging is made by a recycled-paper company run by women whose aim is to address the trash issue in Bali. If you want make-up that’s kind to the animals, the planet and your body, this is it.

Axiology’s ethos is to give women the opportunity to get creative with their make-up without having to worry about toxic ingredients or animal cruelty.

Asher Brown stopped eating meat when he was just 9 years old. He realized if could ask what the cow might want, it would not want to be eaten.

It wasn’t easy being the only vegetarian in his family; his mom worried he might never grow up big and strong without meat. But his parents supported him and at 20, he went from vegetarian to vegan.

However, like many of us, he was an apologetic vegan. He didn’t want to make others uncomfortable, didn’t want to be the odd one out or the “awkward” guy at the dinner table.

But when he got hired to make videos for Beyond Meat, all that changed—he found his voice.

He discovered Vegan Instagram, and that he was part of a group of millions of vegans around the world, standing up for the animals.

That sparked his move into activism.

Asher began speaking at conferences, connecting with other vegans, and working for vegan brands.

Asher Brown is the founder of Pollution TV, a content agency that works solely with ethical companies and conscious brands to spread vegan awareness and lead social change. He’s also recently launched a plant-based cooking show with a difference: High Cuisine, where two cannabis-infused chefs cook up vegan dishes, with some surprising results! You can watch the show for free on Go90.com

Going plant-powered isn’t about what you’re giving up, it’s about what you get. We can do so much good in the world, and it comes down to what we choose to put on our plates each day.

Eating vegan for one day saves one animal a day.

Choosing plants over meat makes a difference. Asher says, if you care about the world, your health, having enough food to feed the entire planet, social justice: eat more plants. Simple.

Your diet is your chance every day to reflect on yourself, your body, your surroundings. It’s more than just about your meal, it’s about the wider world.

When it comes to health, golden girl of the wellness world Candice Kumai knows her stuff! A classically trained chef, model, journalist, TV host and best-selling author, she bridges the gap between the West and traditional Japanese culture.

Brought up in a Japanese-Polish household, Candice was always fascinated by cooking and loved bringing people together with food. She paid her way through culinary school with modelling, before appearing on Top Chef. A decade later, she’s an internationally acclaimed author, wellness influencer, and a living example of how to live and be well while running a business in the city.

Magazines that promise better sex and abs tomorrow are great, but they won’t improve your life. A better life comes from sharing, being open-hearted, self-love, kindness, doing your best and celebrating imperfections. That’s where Candice’s new book comes in.

Kintsugi Wellness is based on the untold story of Candice’s Japanese heritage and is a perfectly imperfect guide to nourishing your mind, body and spirit. Kintsugi means “the art of golden repair.” In Japanese tradition, when you break an object you put it back together with lacquer and gold dust, and make it even more beautiful as a piece of art. The same is true of ourselves.

We are more beautiful with our cracks showing—all the tough times we’ve been through, struggles, painful relationships, illness. These cracks are the scars that show our beauty as a person who has lived. We can heal those scars through living and loving. When you cultivate self-love, everything falls into place. Whatever you want to achieve begins with loving yourself.

Kintsugi Wellness drops on April 17th, and you can pre-order here. The book contains 12 Japanese principles to help shape your life and over 40 delicious, healthy Japanese-Californian recipes. A perfect gift for a friend or for yourself!

Steve Olsher is a bad-ass entrepreneur who’s done nearly everything, even selling speakers out of a van. Motivated by the deep desire to stop simply chasing dollars and start creating positive change, he’s become a best-selling author, podcaster, radio host, and speaker, appearing on many media channels including CNN and Huffington Post.

His book What is Your What uncovers the strategies to find your soul’s true calling. Your “why” is often something you choose – you want to provide for your family, help the homeless, support the environment, etc. But your “what” is internal, a part of who you are. Your “what” chooses you, rather than being something you have chosen. And to figure out what your “what” is, you simply need to answer three key questions: What is your core gift? What primary vehicle are you going to use to share that gift? Who are the people you’re most compelled to serve? Then you’ve got the tools to go out into the world and make a difference with your unique talents. Go to the website to download your free copy!

Steve was motivated to launch the New Media Summit because he wanted to help those with a great story reach out to more people. The forum is all about teaching how to leverage the power of new media; it gives new entrepreneurs and coaches the opportunity to meet 40 of the world’s biggest podcasters and get a spot booked on their shows. Whether you’re a podcaster looking for new stories, or an author who wants to reach a wider audience, the New Media Summit is the perfect place to network and grow your business. It’s limited to 150 people so you get some personal time with all major influencers. And this year, everyone gets a chance to pitch everyone – this really is an incredible opportunity to expand your brand.

Allison was honored to be one of New Media Summit’s Icons of Influence last year. Many of the guests on our show have come from the event. If you want the opportunity to pitch to influencers this year, then don’t miss out! The next one is just two weeks away, plus we’ve scored a huge discount code for you. Go to www.foodhealsnation.com/newmediasummit to sign up, or email info@foodhealsnation.com for more information. This is THE event for networking and connecting with like-minded people, plus dancing (fancy doing the wobble on a 400sqft lit-up dancefloor?) and plenty of drinks. So, what are you waiting for? Get your tickets and join us.
