On today’s episode we've got three pioneers in different aspects of the health space but one thing they share in common is their passion to help you live your best life.

Living your best life may sound like an overused Instagram hashtag, but in this case it is three amazing individuals who overcame trauma, health challenges and more to learn how not just to survive in life, but to thrive no matter what life throws your way.

You’ve probably seen Dutch fitness model and trainer Jill de Jong in the latest Peloton commercial, on the cover of Women’s Health and in ads for L’Oréal, Avon and Izod. She was also the real-life body model for Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider video game. But before she was sought after model, actress and fitness expert, she was a calorie-counting teenager trying to fit in with the other calorie-counting models where together they created unrealistic and unsustainable ways to maintain their bodies. After years of feeling deprived, eating all the wrong things, and feeling completely uncomfortable in her skin, she knew things had to change.

Jill’s newfound passion for nutrition led her to become a health coach and certified personal trainer. Today, she shares her story  and healthy recipes in her cookbook, Models Do Eatand on her podcast Life Done Better. Jill is passionate about helping others to find better ways to move, eat, deal with stress, and design action steps for all that they want to achieve in life.

Dr. Allen Lycka has been acknowledged as one of the leading cosmetic dermatologists in the world for three decades. He is a co-founder of Doctors for the Practice of Safe and Ethical Aesthetic Medicine and founder of The Canadian Skin Cancer Association. He has won the prestigious Consumers Choice Award For Cosmetic Surgery for 16 consecutive years.

In 2003, Dr. Lycka’s life changed drastically when he suddenly developed a right foot drop and then misdiagnosed as ALS (Lou Gherigs’ disease). After being told he only had months to live he discovered the secret that would change his life. He did not have ALS, and he was able to treat his condition naturally and make a full recovery. Because of what he learned, he co-authored the book The Secrets of Living A Fantastic Life with Harriet Tinka.

Harriet Tinka was a model-turned student at the University of Calgary. Featured on haute couture runways and in fashion magazines, she chose to turn her back on the soul-crushing pressure to be the "ideal female body." Instead she chose to go to school and focus on getting an education. During this time, one of her friends began to turn critical, mean and possessive, until one night he attacked her. She was beaten, abducted and sliced up with a butcher's knife. It was a miracle she survived, but the trauma left her with a big "why me?"

As she faced her adversities, she was one day inspired by a little girl in a wheelchair who said to her, “Move forward and use your pain to inspire others.” Harriet decided it was time to pay it forward. Ever since, she has inspired and touched the lives of over 500 teens!

Learn how to eat like a supermodel plus the secrets to living a fantastic life in today's episode of Food Heals!

Public health has been defined as the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, and improving quality of life through organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, communities and individuals.

Todays guests are pioneers in the health space who are disrupting the norms and taking new and innovative approaches to health and healing.

First up we're talking medical cost sharing with John Iorillo. John and his partners started PureHealth in 2019 after discovering the solution to their own problem of finding affordable health insurance for both themselves and their clients. Their goal is to help you get high-quality healthcare for a cost that is up to 60% less than either your current health insurance, or any of the other options available in the marketplace, while also lowering your out-of-pocket costs.

Then you'll hear from CEO and Founder of Music Changing Lives, Josiah Bruny. Josiah worked for some of the greatest stars in the music industry such as Master P and Ice Cube and learned the “ins and outs” of business in order to develop a path for at-risk youth to create music in their communities and learn entrepreneurial skills and help them retain their rights to their music. What started as a one-room studio inside his home garage has today grown into a robust after school program, serving more than 300 youth in three community centers and four schools in California.

Finally, we're chatting with Rob Rast, a vegan entrepreneur who dropped out of college, moved to China, starred in a reality TV show, and launched multiple successful businesses. Rob's mission is to get people out of cars, and get them back onto bicycles with his one of a kind electric bike, The Babymaker which he crowdfunded over $12 million dollars for on IndieGogo. He believes caring for others starts with caring for yourself. “Invest in yourself, Make yourself powerful and you’ll gain the power to change the world.”

Halloween is not just about pumpkin carving, ghost stories, and wearing spooky costumes. During this time when the veil is lifted there is an opportunity to release that which is no longer serving us, tap into our intuition, and create massive shifts in our lives.

Get into the Halloween spirit with some spiritual, spooky, supernatural stories with Laura Powers and Elizabeth Tripp!

Spiritual Teacher and Lifestyle Design Coach Elizabeth Tripp grew up seeing things others did not. Feeling “different” from her friends and family, she turned to food as comfort. After years of working at a job she didn’t like and losing the person she thought was the love of her life, Elizabth realized it was time for a change. She transformed her life and realized her abilities were gifts that could help others. Her mission today is to guide you to break through old patterns and learn your soul’s lessons so that you can believe in yourself, live in the truth of who you are, and design a lifestyle you’re in love with.

Ever since she was a child, Celebrity Psychic Laura Powers has seen and sensed ghosts and spirits. She now uses her gifts communicating with angels, spirits, and other energy beings to help her clients better understand and change their lives. Though Laura has always sensed the spiritual realm, it was not until adulthood that she opened up to her gifts and a life-crisis in which she was unemployed, going through a bad divorce, and physically ill.  It was during the crisis that she shifted and opened up her focus to the spiritual realm and her life dramatically transformed from there. Her goal is to help others find the resources and tools for self-healing.

Tune into today's episode and we’ll take you on a journey of angels, ghosts, the other side, manifestation, and more! You’ll learn how to tap more fully into your intuitive psychic abilities so you can design the life you love!

At age 19, Marisa Imôn was diagnosed with bipolar type 1 and had to withdraw from school during a manic episode. All her life leading up to this she had been at the mercy of her emotions - never knowing if she’d wake up feeling suicidal or euphoric. But to the world around her, she was just a happy, friendly girl.

She hid her emotional intensity until it reached a breaking point in the form of mania. Modern medicine and therapy made her believe there was no recovery, or at least not without medication. She was told that people with bipolar type one can go on to live happy, healthy, and successful lives, but only if they’re medicated.

In this episode, Marisa shares the tools that she uses daily to help her work with her emotional intensity instead of feeling like her emotions are working against her.

On August 2nd, 2018, Rachel Dye went for a five mile run like she normally did, around a lake near her home in Southwest Washington. Two days later, she was rushed into emergency surgery and had a golf-ball sized tumor removed from her colon.

This felt like a death sentence. In fact, the first few doctors they met with acted like this was a death sentence too! Rachel was a 27-year-old wife, mother of 3 young children and that answer wasn't good enough for her.

This is when their journey truly began.

All lives can't matter until black lives matter. Their house is on fire. Their children, brothers, sisters and parents are dying. We have to put out that fire NOW.

This is the Food Heals Podcast. Our mission is to teach people that the body is designed to heal itself when given the tools it needs to do so. To stop outsourcing our health to doctors and to take out health into our own hands. I promote nutrition and alternative medicine and healing yourself mind body and spirit.

But what about the people who can't afford healthy food? When people in low income communities of color cannot afford to eat well, cannot afford to go to a holistic doctor, do not even have access to healthy food because they live in a food desert, there is something very wrong in our society. And it is up to us to fix it.

We have to be activists, now more than ever. The systemic racism in our country has gone on far too long and it is time to stop being sad about it and start taking massive action.

So what can we do?

Listen, Love, Educate, Donate, Volunteer, March, Say Their Names, Use Our Platforms for Good, Amplify Voices of Color, and Vote for the World We Want to See.

We have to be willing to learn and listen. We must be willing to change. We have to act.

In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."- MLK, Jr."

Stand up, Say your piece. Shine your light.

Today I am bringing you a special edition of The Food Heals Podcast, which will be the first of many  episodes covering the current COVID-19 pandemic.

My goal is to give you the latest public health information with my holistic take.

In this upcoming COVID-19 series I will be interviewing doctors, journalists, health experts, and more to separate fact from fiction so you can protect yourself and your family during these uncertain times.

In episode 298 I'll give you some holistic tips (that they aren't talking about on the news) to stay healthy and safe, and we will talk about the opportunities that arise during a crisis.

And, as things slow down and we all stay home watching this play out, this is a wonderful time to reflect on your current life.

Ask yourself: Am I truly happy?

What is it I would do every single day if money wasn't an option?

What would life look like if I was in radiant, perfect health?

Amidst what seems like utter chaos, there is massive opportunity right now.

- Opportunity to reflect on your life and make changes.

- Opportunity to spend more time with our kids, spouses and loved ones.

- Opportunity to finally start that online business.

- Opportunity to dust off that guitar and finally learn to play.

- Opportunity to finally cook all those recipes from that vegan cookbook you bought.

- Opportunity to practice meditation and get in touch with ourselves on a deeper level.

- Opportunity to help someone who is struggling right now.

What can you do this week to bring you joy even when times are tough?

What new opportunities could arise for you out of this crisis?

What can you do to help others in need?

Let's all collectively brainstorm how to support each other during this scary time in our history.

Together, we will get through this.

Current medical wisdom advises that anyone suffering from diabetes or prediabetes should eat a low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet. But today’s guests, Cyrus Khambatta, PhD, and Robby Barbaro, MPH, rely on a century of research to show that advice is misguided. While it may improve short-term blood glucose control, such a diet also increases the long-term risk for chronic diseases like cancer, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, chronic kidney disease, and fatty liver disease.

The revolutionary solution is to eat a low-fat plant-based whole-food diet, the most powerful way to reverse insulin resistance in all types of diabetes: type 1, type 1.5, type 2, prediabetes, and gestational diabetes.

This is why Cyrus and Robby founded Mastering Diabetes, an online platform that helps people Reverse Insulin Resistance Permanently, Get your best A1c, achieve your ideal body weight, and lower your cholesterol in as little as 3 months through their summits, coaching, and books.
