“Why don’t you put a bag over your face?” is the kind of comment Daisy grew up with. She suffered with terrible cystic acne from 3rd grade. Despite trying every anti-acne product on the market - oral antibiotics, silicic acid, benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, etc. nothing worked. In fact, these conventional treatments even made her skin worse. She felt massively insecure, ugly, and believed she would never belong. She was even bullied because of her skin, which really affected her self-esteem. But it also shaped her.

Tired of trying products that didn’t work, she began reviewing them on her YouTube channel to help other acne sufferers. Viewers resonated with her vulnerability and before she knew it, she’d built a loyal following. As she kept trying to figure out how to heal her skin, she realized it was about more than what she put on her skin, it was also about diet and lifestyle. Her mission is to help others clear up their skin, feel beautiful, and be unapologetically themselves.

Now, her skin is acne-free and glowing, and her skincare brand, Banish, is a million-dollar business selling a small range of products made with only natural ingredients - no preservatives, artificial fragrances, or harmful chemicals. Skincare that really works.

Being hailed as “Sex and the City for Food,” The Food Heals Podcast brings together experts in the field of nutrition, health and healing to teach you the best-kept natural secrets to being a hotter, healthier, happier YOU!

This sexy, savvy duo provides eco-friendly advice on a variety of issues including the healing power of nutrition, living authentically, turning your passion into your career, choosing the best natural health and beauty products, the benefits of a plant-based diet and so much more!

Her best seller is the Banish Set - a kit containing the Banisher, a micro-needling roller which causes microscopic damage to the skin (but it really doesn’t hurt at all!) and promotes skin renewal, combined with the Banish Oil, a vitamin C serum that contains ascorbic acid and rosehip oil.  Together, these products increase collagen and elastane in your skin, helping to reduce fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and acne scars. And there’s no down-time! We love it. Use the code Foodheals for $10 off your first order. Check out these amazing before & after pics.

There’s nothing like getting home after a hard day and pouring yourself a glass of wine. But did you know most wines aren’t vegan? Crazy right? Traditional alcohol production uses ingredients such as egg whites, gelatin or dried fish bladders to filter the grapes - suddenly that vino doesn’t look as appealing does it!

Thankfully, some brands have stepped up with delicious vegan options. Our favorite is Le Grand Courtage, founded by Tawnya Falkner, a fierce female entrepreneur who didn’t let anything hold her back from following her passion.

During her many travels (43 countries so far!), Tawnya realized the important role wine plays in all cultures. It brings people together, it highlights celebrations, it helps us to unwind. But it can also be snobby, and some expensive brands don’t even taste that nice (and aren’t even plant-based!). She wanted to create a sparkling wine that’s delicious, affordable, and vegan - a wine suitable for every day and every celebration. So she moved from San Francisco to France to make it happen.

And, despite this being a highly male-dominated industry, she’s succeeded! Without pre-conceived notions of what wine should be, she’s been able to create a light, refreshing, sparkling wine and grow her business from nothing. Her motto: don’t let anything hold you back, especially not insecurity. Dream big and go for it!

Le Grand Courtage bottles are available to buy State-wide. Her latest wine, Très Chic Rosé, has our thumbs up over and above other brands. It’s perfect on its own, or made into cocktails. We love it! You can get yours here.

It’s never been easier to go plant-based. More importantly, there’s never been a better time to do it. Faced with an epidemic of disease and the threat of global warming, it’s the one thing all of us can do to make a positive difference - both for our health, and the planet.

Today’s two guests made the shift to veganism after watching the groundbreaking (and super powerful) documentary Earthlings. Now, they want to help other people transition to plant-based living, and better health.

Melissa is a plant-powered personal chef and founder of ForkinPlants. We’re so inspired by her story. After studying healthcare and working in an office for years, she quit her 9 to 5 to follow her dreams and focus on her passions: cooking and helping people live healthy lives. But she wasn’t always on this vibe. In fact, before going vegan she used to eat cheese out of a can! Fifteen years ago, she had to take a 14-day course of antibiotics to clear an H-Pylori stomach infection. The result was a destroyed digestive system, chronic acid reflux and really bad eczema. Through research and Chinese medicine, she discovered that some of the top superfoods, like turmeric, were actually making her condition worse. Now, having healed herself through food, she helps others do the same. Read her blog post to find out how she healed her skin issues.

Elana’s journey is similar. She suffered from chronic acid reflux from the age of 16. Of course, doctors just gave her a pill to take and unsurprisingly, this didn’t work long-term. She had her light-bulb moment at a retreat where the host made everyone watch Earthlings. Now vegan and healthy, Elana is a plant-based influencer and foodie, spreading vegan holistic health knowledge to those who need it most. She runs vegan events, and is about to quit her office job to follow her passion full-time. Her website Klean-Slate focuses on being real about food - because let’s face it, it’s not about being perfect, it’s about making small sustainable changes that last. Check out Episode 120 for Elana’s first appearance on the show, where she shares tips to rebalance your gut microflora.

With so many different types of yoga, you might not know where to start. The same goes for fitness. Do you go hard and fast, or slow and gentle? Thai kick-boxing or asana flow? Or maybe it doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you’re moving and appreciating your body.

Koya Webb is a yoga superstar and celebrity holistic health coach, has appeared on NBC and was the main character on the reality show Yoga Girls. If you want to feel inspired, her Instagram is the most beautiful feed, full of motivational posts. But it wasn’t always this way.

As a teen, Koya was insecure, had no self-worth or self-love. She had to learn to build that over time. What set her on that journey was track athletics. But just before she was about to make it big, she got a stress fracture. That was the end of the dream. She sank into a very dark place. And that’s when a school councilor suggested yoga.

From the first class, Koya felt connected to spirit in a way she’d never experienced before. Within a year, she’d healed her body through yoga and meditation. From there, she kept studying and decided to become a yoga teacher to inspire people into a healthier lifestyle. For Koya, the secret lies in balance.

You don’t have to be dogmatic about yoga, just like you don’t have to be dogmatic about your diet. When Alli went from non-vegan to super hardcore raw veganism, she got sick. She had to find her sweet spot. Everyone is different. Some people love to eat first thing in the morning. Other people enjoy intermittent fasting. And what you need may change depending on what’s happening in your life. You need to eat and fuel up based on your lifestyle. And the most important ingredient for total health? Self-love.

We need to get loved up. Most of us are givers and lovers and nurturers, but we also need to learn how to receive love. Otherwise our cup gets empty and we get exhausted. Koya created the Get Loved Up University, a yoga teacher training academy to give more women the tools to teach other women, and spread the beautiful message of love, unity, health and plant-based nutrition. If this sounds like what you need, join Koya on her yoga retreat in Thailand in December! Any shape, size, nationality, yoga ability, you are invited to come and get loved up!

What do relationships and business have in common? You can’t succeed in either without mindfulness.

Think about what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. Drive, passion, organization, strength…. But also, belief in yourself, trust in your abilities, confidence in your knowledge. Without that, you just stand in your own way. So how can we stop blocking ourselves from following our dreams and setting up our businesses? It all starts with mindfulness.

The same goes for our relationships. Our vibration, which is made up of all our habitual thoughts and our core beliefs about ourselves and the world, is what attracts people into our lives. In the same way, if we have unresolved issues, we will keep attracting people who exacerbate them. Unless we love ourselves, we cannot expect another person to truly love us. We need to empower ourselves and take responsibility for what we bring into our relationships - we create our reality, so if our reality doesn’t suit us, then we need to look at what we’re putting out there, what we’re believing, and how we’re creating this situation.

Mindfulness can be the difference between success and failure. Most of what holds us back is not being mindful or aware of the little things that stop us. Limiting believes create blocks, in our relationships, and our business. When we bring mindfulness to what we’re doing, it opens us up for success in all areas of our lives.

Step in today’s guest, Michael Neeley. Michael first discovered mindfulness during his acting career (he spent twelve years working as a medieval knight!). The more he studied Buddhism and got into the psychology of human beings, the more he felt driven to share this knowledge with the world. He got out of acting and into coaching, and now runs three podcasts and regular mindset mastery events. His mission: to bring new ways of thinking and being to wake up people and the world.

That’s why Michael launched Your Authority Blueprint Live, an event dedicated to helping visionary solo-preneurs connect with their inner expert and become successful. The Authority Blueprint is founded on four pillars which, when implemented, will catapult you into the scene in a big way. These four pillars are podcasting, virtual summits, speaking from stage and authoring your own book.

If you feel like you’ve got a book inside you, or the deep sense that you have something to share, but are not sure where to begin, this event is perfect for you.

Michael’s year-long program, the Authority Academy, goes through each one of those pillars one by one, and get them done, while helping you release the blocks that keep you from stepping up. So that at the end of the year your podcast is up and running, you’ve spoken at an online summit, are booking speaking gigs and have published your book. More details HERE.

If you’re ready to release what keeps you blocked, then don’t miss JJ’s Releasing What Weighs You Down event on January 10th to 13th in Los Angeles. Speakers will include JJ herself, Michael Neeley, Allison, energy practitioner Lisa Thomas and mind-body-spirit nutritionist Jeanne Peters.

Do you ever feel like none of your inner work is getting you anywhere? What if your fears, limiting beliefs and negative patterns were not your own, but actually inherited from your ancestors? Are you holding something in your body that isn’t even yours?

If your ancestors had any kind of emotional trauma, such as fear, phobias, depression, anxiety, abuse, the subconscious traps that energy in DNA. This gets passed down, generation to generation. So your phobia of spiders may be due to a great great aunt experiencing the trauma of getting bitten. For example, Whitney’s limiting beliefs around money come from her grandfather going through the Great Depression.

It can feel overwhelming to think that you’re also carrying other people’s trauma, but don’t worry! You can free yourself from these patterns and release the emotions that are not your own.

Lisa Thomas is a Transformational Energy Healer and uses a combination of kinesiology (a form of muscle testing) and clairvoyancy to connect with her clients’ subconscious and assess what is blocking them, what needs to be released, and where these limiting beliefs have come from.

Lisa was born with these gifts and initially felt this as a huge burden. Seeing dead people isn’t exactly fun when you don’t know what it all means and you can’t talk to anyone about it. She didn’t know what to do, and felt afraid and isolated. It wasn’t until years later that she realized that if she wasn’t using her gifts to empower people, she wasn’t fulfilling her purpose on earth.

Thanks to her help, her clients can align with their soul purpose, get their unique gifts into the world, and reach their fullest potential. By drawing on her access to Source Energy and knowledge of holistic healing methods, Lisa can break patterns of struggle and negative energy that hold you back, so you can achieve a life filled with love and prosperity. She offers consultations in person, by Skype or by phone, and she works with people from all over the world and of all ages, from newborns to 80-year-olds.

How can you manifest what you desire?

It’s not as hard as you might thing. It comes down to gratitude. Gratitude for what you have in your life but also what’s coming - your perfect clients, your soulmate, the growth of your business, vibrant health. It has to go further than simply thinking about it or writing it. You’ve got to speak your gratitude out loud. Because when you speak it, you send it out into the Universe, and that energy will come back to you.

Lisa’s Special Offer for Food Heals Nation:

  • Work with Lisa! All the details here: www.foodhealsnation.com/lisa
  • Free healing meditation! Head to Lisa’s website for her Release Inherited Money Blocks meditation, a great tool to unblock your limiting belief about money, clear your energy and prepare your body for healing.

We used to consider smoking healthy - everyone smoked, even doctors. It took over 20 years and 7000 studies before the first official report against smoking was published. How long will it take before the truth comes out about our diets?

Well, if Dr. Michael Greger has anything to do with it, not long at all!

Dr. Greger was inspired into the medical profession by his grandma’s healing story. She’d had so many bypass operations that doctors said there was nothing more to be done, and sent her home to die. She was only 65. But after working with of one of the original lifestyle medicine pioneers, Nathan Pritikin, she healed herself and went on to live another 31 healthy happy years.

Having witnessed firsthand the healing power of a plant-based diet, Dr. Greger is on a mission to bring the truth about nutrition to as many people as possible. He founded the free, non-profit, science-based website NutritionFacts.org, which provides the latest in evidence-based nutrition research.

We love his book How Not to Die, where he examines the top 15 causes of death in the US, and explains how nutrition works BETTER than prescription meds to prevent and reverse disease, heal your body and help you live longer. It’s a practical guide that will help you design a lifestyle that supports your complete wellbeing. You can download the free Daily Dozen app, which gives you simple daily strategies to fight disease and feel great, even on a budget. And the best thing? 100% of the proceeds of his books are donated to charity.

The message is loud and clear: we have the power to prevent and reverse chronic disease with a plant-based diet and healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Greger is also working on a new book, How Not To Diet, which will be out in December 2019. He’s discovered some unique metabolic quirks to accelerate weight loss. We can’t wait to read it!!

Dr. Greger’s recommendations to prevent and reverse chronic disease:

  • It’s the day-to-day stuff that matters.
  • Avoid the worst foods (soda, processed meats, trans-fats, dairy)
  • Add in the best foods (beans, berries, leafy greens, chia seeds)
  • Pack in as many whole healthy plant foods as possible - real food that grows out of the ground

Is clutter holding you back? You may think mess is just a nuisance, but the state of your home is a reflection of what is going on inside.

Our environment sends us sensory messages about the world we live in. A broken path to your home sends the message that life is hard, that things can trip you up. A cluttered purse sends the message of difficulty letting go. A chaotic desk speaks of disorganization. When we begin to clear and declutter our environment, we actually begin to clear our inner world as well. And that is the real magic of Feng Shui.

Dana Claudat is a modern Feng Shui master, but her life wasn’t always zen. There was a time when a perfect life to Dana meant hustling x1000, always chasing the next thing. On the outside her life looked awesome, on the inside she was totally burnt out. After years of this kind of fast-paced lifestyle, she ended up in hospital with auto immune disorders. For the first time in her adult life, she was house-bound. Forced to slow down, Dana realized she’d never made her house a home, never created a space where she could truly thrive. There wasn’t a single picture on the walls, the place looked like an impersonal Airbnb. That’s when she found Feng Shui, and it transformed her life.

Through the art of Feng Shui, Dana found her voice, got grounded, became confident, and created her business. For over a decade, she’s helped clients change their homes and reconnect with the flow of their life’s true purpose. New jobs, fame, soulmate relationships, business deals, and renewed self-love are just some of the results Dana’s clients have experienced.

Feng Shui Explained

Feng Shui is basically the art and science of creating an optimum space for you to thrive. There’s no one-size-fits-all model. And it’s not about following arbitrary rules, like purple for wealth or red for success (I mean, not everyone wants red and purple in their living room, right?). Instead, it’s about how the space makes you feel.

Prosperity comes from creativity. And for creativity to blossom you need to feel present and grounded in your space. That comes from creating a home that is decluttered and clear of stagnant energies.

Dana’s Tips to Declutter Your Home and Create Prosperity

  • Start small: There’s no point having a super tidy garage if your purse is total chaos. Start with the spaces that make up your daily routine: your purse, your bathroom shelf, your kitchen cupboards.
  • Everything in your life should have a purpose: Do you use that dinner service? Are you making the most of your dining room?
  • Create conversations in your home: is your furniture separate and disjointed? Move things around, group things together, and see how this shifts the room’s energy.
  • Be intuitive: if you feel something needs to go, get rid of it. Don’t keep that cushion just because your auntie gave it to you.
  • Clean up your digital space: organize those files, don’t be afraid to unfollow feeds you no longer wish to see.
  • Clear stagnant energies from your home. Burning sage is great for this. Open all the windows and set your intention to clear the space. Mindfully walk around your home and visualize old energy flowing out and new energy flowing in.
  • A great place to start is Dana’s free Life Detox Jump Start Course, where you’ll learn how to detox the clutter and attract more love, health, prosperity and happiness.

Ultimately, when you change your home, you change your life. You can shape the universe around you in your favor. Where will you begin?

Today there’s a lot of blonde power in the recording studio! We’re asking two top health & wellness experts your burning health questions.

Sophie Uliano is a nutritionist, green beauty expert, and best-selling author of the Gorgeously Green series of books. She runs retreats and events that empower women to transform from the inside out and be the healthiest they can be. This blonde bombshell taught Julia Roberts and Oprah how to go green BEFORE green was cool. Check out previous episodes 178, 185 and 200 for Sophie’s story and more gorgeously green lifestyle tips.

Ella Magers was named one of Shape Magazine’s Top 50 Hottest Trainers in America, and we testify that she’s really hot - and vegan. She’s the author of Six Weeks to Sexy Abs, a book that will transform how you exercise for good. Vegan for 23 years, Ella runs online coaching programs helping people make the transition to a plant-based diet and healthy lifestyle. Check out episodes 97, 169 and 170 for Ella’s story.

1: How much exercise do we really need?

The latest scientific research says the optimum amount of exercise is 60 minutes a day. Sounds like a lot, but you don’t have to do it all in one go: you can break it up. If you’re busy, do 10 minutes kettlebell in the morning, throw in a bit of high speed walking at lunchtime, and a spot of yoga in the afternoon. Simply being active in your day to day soon adds up when it comes to fitness. Even tidying up can help you work up a sweat.

Consider your goals. If you’re focusing on long term health, lower impact exercise is a good choice. If you’re looking for fast results, go for high-intensity workouts. Ultimately, it’s about finding a balance between the two that works for you.

2: I like to drink a glass of wine every day. I’ve got a pretty healthy routine otherwise, but I just need that glass. Is it ok to have wine?

Be plant-powered, eat your greens, and enjoy that glass of wine guilt-free. Firstly, wine is packed with antioxidants, in moderation it’s practically a health food (check out Dr. Cabral’s episode where he shares the secrets to drinking healthily). When you deny yourself something you love, you end up compensating by binging on something else. It’s more important to listen to your body. Definitely don’t feel guilty, because guilt changes the molecular structure of our bodies. So pour yourself that glass of wine, and enjoy every sip.

3: What’s the deal with SPF? Is the sun giving us skin cancer or is it good for us? What are you best recommendations for healthy sunscreen?

The sun is not the devil. In fact, vitamin D is vital and you should get between 2000-5000 IU every day. A little bit of sunshine is ok (although definitely avoid the baby oil and the aluminum foil), but you need to be cautious and protect yourself from harmful rays. Our top tips:

  • Wear a hat and non-toxic sunblock. You can make your own by mixing coconut oil and zinc oxide.
  • Avoid conventional sunscreens, they’re packed with hormone-disrupting chemicals and don’t even work.
  • Think about your diet. The more toxic you are, the more you’ll burn.

4: Colonics and enemas. Hype or healing tools?

There’s a ton of conflicting information out there. Some say it’s lifesaving, others say it might kill you. The truth is somewhere in between. As a short-term fix or to kickstart your healing journey, they can work miracles. In fact, many Food Heals guests have had positive experiences with them. But some say washing away your microbiome is a bad idea, and colonics shouldn’t be relied upon long-term.

If you eat clean and if you’re healthy, you don’t necessarily need colonics because you’re giving your digestive system everything it needs to function and support a healthy gut. The body is clever, it naturally detoxifies, and we can assist it in a gentle way by eating certain herbs and vegetables like cilantro, milk thistle and leafy greens.

5: What are the best green products for hair?

  • Evolve H do a great starter kit for hair. Totally green non-toxic hair care.
  • Bogavia do a delicious shampoo, conditioner and serum that really deliver.
  • EO Products shampoos and conditioners are gluten-free, organic, and infused with essential oils that helps your hair grow.

6: How do you kick a Starbucks addiction?

If you’re trying to kick the coffee habit, you can try a matcha tea shot instead. It will really energize you without giving you the jitters. Or give Hiball a try, they give you a natural lift.

If it’s the take-out coffee habit you’re trying to shift, then look at it from an economic, health, and environment perspective. You can buy really good organic ethical tea or coffee, organic plant milk with no nasties added, make it at home and take it with you in a reusable cup… not only do you save money, but you avoid chemical-packed non-organic coffee and sugary milks (saving your health), and don’t contribute to the mountain of plasticized coffee cups polluting the oceans (saving the planet). When it comes to coffee with benefits, you can’t go wrong with Foursigmatic, instant coffee infused with medicinal mushrooms.

7: What are your thoughts on drinking aloe vera gel?

Aloe vera can be good for food poisoning because it flushes you out and helps the intestinal tract to heal. However, you need to use it with caution, because it can be powerful and some people are super sensitive to it. In small amounts it can be delicious, you can mix it with lemon and mint for a healthy healing lemonade.

8: What are some tips to move out of food addiction and into a healthy relationship with our food?

The first thing to acknowledge is that food is just a symptom of disordered eating. The cause is deeper. So switching to veganism or vegetarianism doesn’t automatically cure food addiction. You need to begin by exploring what sits behind those behaviors. What are the thoughts and beliefs fueling your eating patterns? Ultimately, when we reconnect to self-love, and are mindful of what is driving us to crave another serving of ice-cream (vegan or not), we can step out of disordered eating and into a healthy relationship with food.

Kerri went vegan at the age of 12. But she wasn’t a healthy vegan. Pasta, sugar, gluten, soy, and junk food all featured in her diet, causing drastic mood swings, low energy and skin issues. After 24 years of that kind of strict veganism, she felt like crap. She had constant sugar cravings, was tired all the time, was anemic, started losing her hair, and her brain didn’t work. And all the doctor did was… prescribe medicine. He didn’t even ask Kerri about her diet. He just diagnosed her with ADD and handed her some pills.

At that moment, Kerri had a breakthrough. It wasn’t about veganism. It was about health and eating right. The food choices you make dramatically affect your mood and your physical health. Your gut isn’t called your second brain for nothing – that’s where your immune system is, and where most of your serotonin is produced. So if you’re eating foods that cause poor digestion and inflammation in your gut, then of course that this is going to affect your mental health, and increase your risk of auto-immune issues and disease.

The biggest culprit in all of this is the one food we all find so hard to give up: sugar. Kerri only needed to walk past a strawberry shortbread to get a craving. We often associate sweet tastes with happy times in our childhoods, so we naturally seek it out, especially when we’re stressed or sad. And we’re hard-wired to desire sweet foods. Basically, we’re addicted to it. To really step into health, we have to free ourselves from our sugar cravings. That’s exactly what Kerri did, and why she’s launched her new brand Ageless and Healthy, dedicated to helping people be the healthiest, most beautiful version of themselves.

And if you like Food Heals, then you are going to die for Kerri’s podcast, The KPod – it’s what originally inspired us to start this show, so check it out!

Kerri’s Tips for Ageless Health and Beauty:

  • Hydration, hydration, hydration: have 2-3 liters of water a day and in 3 months you will look like you’ve had fillers in your face. But you also need electrolytes to help your cells to absorb that water.
  • Vitamin C: apply vitamin C serum and take vitamin C supplements.
  • Make sure your anti-aging cream contains vitamin C and retinol. These nutrients WILL tighten your skin.
  • Use sunscreen.
  • HALO laser therapy.
  • Beauty begins from within: eat your greens! They instantly alkalize you and give you boundless energy (way better than coffee!).
  • To address rosacea, go on an elimination diet; focus on the foods you eat or drink every day.
  • IPL: intense pulse light laser therapy.
  • Take care of your insides: focus on anti-inflammatory healing foods (turmeric, greens, antioxidants) and leave the junk foods on the shelf.

Lynne Taggart works with spiritual entrepreneurs, deep diving into the inner work most of us avoid doing, to make their business super successful. Alli met Lynne at Level 3 of Spirit Junkie Masterclass.

Until then, Lynne had held back. She did most of her work online because she didn’t feel ready to be that visible. But during a mastermind with Gabby Bernstein, Lynne realized she was being called to do more in-person work.

Lynne had to go through her own shifts before becoming a coach. She’d always been an entrepreneur, running her own fashion shop since she was 23. But despite her success, she was unhappy, insecure, anxious and burned out.

She closed the shop to become a stay at home mom, and fell into coaching because it was something she could easily do remotely. At first, she didn’t think about it as a business, but when she saw the potential for emotional growth and transformation, she knew she had found her calling.

Now Lynne runs events to help other women shift into who they are truly meant to be and reach their full potential. She helps her clients create a soulful online business and become unapologetically abundant.

How can you attract this abundance into your life? Well, first you need to tap into your purpose. What is it that you’re here to do? Don’t compare yourself to what other people are doing, figure out what YOU love to do.

When you tap into the fact that we live in an abundant Universe, you realize it’s ok to charge for your gifts, to put your prices up, to earn a paycheck from your passion. When you tap into the flow, it’s easier to realize what you want.

You need to change your energy to match what it is you want to attract into your life. You might want success, but are you ready for it?

There’s a huge difference between hustle and flow. It’s so easy for us to get stuck in the hustle - we’re busy, we’re rushing one place to the next, we’re getting through our 2-mile-long-to-do-list.

But it’s hard to get inspired in that space. Flow is where ideas come to you: when you’re meditating, when you’re in the present and connected to the now.

Lynne’s secrets to manifest more abundance:

  • When you get an idea or a desire, don’t ignore it! You deserve it and you CAN do it. Recognize that desire and tune into it.
  • Explore the desire, what does it look like, what does it feel like? You’re declaring to the Universe that you want it to happen.
  • Begin to look for signs and take heed. The Universe will deliver what you need to make your dreams happen.
  • Align: become a vibrational match for the desire.
  • Work with Lynne:
    • Soul-based Mastery is a 12-module program for the new entrepreneur, that combines deep inner work and will teach you how to build your online business. The program includes a live coaching calls with other program members.
    • Six-Month Private Coaching: for the powerhouse woman looking for results. Come out of the hustle, have some fun, experience joy, and become even more empowered.

Gabby Bernstein’s Principles for Running a Spiritual Business

You’ve seen what’s happening in the world, felt it deep, empathized with it, and held it within you. And that sent you a message - let’s go. Shine bright. Go big.

But to go big, you need money. Not just to pay your bills, but to nurture yourself, to give back, to really be abundant.

But if you stay within the energy of “I need to pay my bills” you’re still in fear. Because there are infinite possibilities for abundance. Even getting fired is simply the Universe setting you free to start your heart-centered business. The same goes for debt. Debt is just a lesson you need to learn, something that needs to be healed. So be grateful for it. Thank it for teaching you, thank it for decreasing. Once you learn the lesson, the debt will disappear.

We can all have a quantum shift around money. You can heal your money mindset. So tell yourself “I can earn,” “I can do this.” That will create a new story, and that sends out a vibration to the world: you’re ready for abundance.

Money is not complicated. You’re either coming at it from fear or love. If you’re fearful around money, you block it. If you’re in fear of money, it is because you have disconnected from spirit. You’re relying on your own strength. You need to reconnect with the Universe. So ask it: Show me how I can show up. Show me creative possibilities for abundance. Show me how I can serve.

Because when your work revolves around love, money flows. Your business needs to be about love, because love is a magnet, and it multiplies… and it is the only currency.

Your money situation, your business, your relationships, your body… everything is a reflection of your spiritual condition and your spiritual relationship.

In order to create abundance, we must believe in creative possibilities.

And if you want to follow your dream of starting up your own business, you really must check out Gabby Bernstein’s latest video, where she shares a special invitation, a shout-out to all those who want to inspire others by doing what inspires them.

If you have a burning desire to do something different, to leave the grind and wake up feeling passionate about your work, we’ve got just the thing. This episode brings together five powerful lady entrepreneurs who will rock your world.

What do these five gorgeous women have in common? They shunned the traditional 9 to 5 in favor of following their own path and creating a business around serving others.

Because let’s face it. You can eat all the kale you want, but if you’re waking up every morning dreading the commute into a depressing office and a job that doesn’t fulfil you, then you can’t be truly healthy. Because total wellness is about eating well AND living your truth. It’s all connected.

Spiritual Boss Babe Leslie Durso

From a very young age, Leslie knew her purpose: to guide and inspire people to live healthier, happier lives, and help them find their smile. She’s a vegan chef, influencer, author, and runs beautiful retreats all over the world.

She truly is following her dreams.

Her number one tip: you have to just keep walking through the fire. One step after the other, just keep going and keep taking steps, however small, towards your goals. That journey begins with the inner work.

After all, your business is who you are in the world. What you put out in your day-to-day will eventually show up in your business. So, who do you want to be? What do you want to create for yourself, and for the world?

Of course, money is part of this journey, but it can’t be the ultimate goal. It’s more like the result of the goal (the goal being to do something you are passionate about). If you make money the goal, you’ll just keep chasing it. You need to chase the goal.

What fills your thoughts, fills your life. The things that you think about the most are the things that happen. Worry is a prayer to chaos. If you keep thinking how crap it is to be single, you’re going to be single. If you keep thinking how much you hate your job, you’re just attracting more of the same. So banish those unhelpful thoughts of self-doubt and fear.

Make a moral handbook for yourself: what do you want for your life? Do you want to help people? Do you want a simple life? Do you want to be by the sea? Do you want to open a retreat? Whatever your dream, visualize it and make it happen!

Leslie’s key takeaway: just be passionate about what you’re doing every single day. Make decisions that bring joy into your life and live with a smile.

Spiritual Boss Babe Danielle Mercurio

Danielle Mercurio is a high vibe speaker, comedian and life coach. What does it mean to be a spiritual boss babe? Power… but not in a bad way like corporate power or greed. No, we’re talking universal power here. The personal power of knowing that there is a force within you that makes you unstoppable. That power happens when you blend your spirituality with your work. When you trust the Universe, the Universe conspires to make it happen.

Danielle’s tips to become an unstoppable boss babe:

  • Be really clear about what you want to be in business (it will evolve, but you need to get into that space where you know what you want).
  • Get your spiritual tools in place. Kundalini is Danielle’s personal favorite, but you can find one that works for you.
  • Merge your business plan and your spiritual practice.
  • Be open to how the Universe responds - it might have bigger plans for you.

Spiritual Boss Babe Whitney Lauritsen

Whitney Lauritsen is one of our favorite spiritual boss babes. She left her 9 to 5 in 2008 to create Eco Vegan Gal and now, Creative Wellth. She’s been coaching other people to be amazing at social media. Her big mission is to help people eliminate suffering - whether the suffering comes from health or money or emotions.

Whitney’s tips to get centered in a positive space:

  • Notice and acknowledge your progress, however small - be grateful for your achievements.
  • Don’t just write your gratitude list, speak it!
  • Surround yourself with beautiful things - crystals, essential oils, plants.
  • Listen to your body and show it some love - supplements, probiotics, organic food…

Here are some of the takeaways from Whitney’s new talk, Radical Social Media Strategies to Increase the Power and Profit of Your Brand:

  • Meditate and tune into yourself (you don’t have to sit cross-legged - you can meditate in the shower or anywhere. Just move the focus of your energy from your head to your heart).
  • The bottom line is mindset: shake off the negative thoughts that hold you back and trust in your worth.
  • Believe in manifestation. It works!
  • Shed those layers - give yourself permission to let go of all those limiting beliefs, ego, fear, self-doubt, so you can step into your power and your purpose.

Spiritual Boss Babe Lynne Taggart

Spiritual success and mindset coach Lynne Taggart helps powerhouse women step out of the hustle and into the flow.

These are some of her best practices to tune into your greatness:

  • Create space for spiritual practice (early morning is best).
  • Change your mindset around your spiritual work. Do it because it honors your soul, brings you joy and empowers you - don’t see it as a chore.
  • Intuitive writing - take time to breathe and connect with your inner being. Ask the Universe a question and allow your pen to move across the page. It’s mind-blowing what comes up.
  • Be appreciative for things that you’ve not yet created - this begins the co-creation process with the Universe. When you write in the present, you will make it happen (very quickly!).
  • Tap into the transformational power of the Universe.

Spiritual Boss Babe Amanda Frances

Amanda Frances is a spiritual bad-ass boss babe, and fellow spirit junkie. She’s also a self-made multi-millionaire and soulful business guru to spiritual entrepreneurs all over the world. She takes a no-nonsense approach to living a life of purpose.

She was just the girl who wanted to do something cool with her life. She wanted to help people and make money. But the regular ways just didn’t do it for her.

Having tried all other avenues, Amanda decided to do an experiment. She was only going to do what felt good. She believes that if you desire it, that’s the Universe sending you a message. And it’s your responsibility to just do it. By playing small, you’re not helping those who need you the most. So, take a look at your life, see what you’ve learned and how your experiences can help others.

Amanda’s mission is to empower people to design lives that they are wildly obsessed with. She creates online courses that propel women into entrepreneurship - everything from branding to money mindset to course creation and more. We LOVE her branding - seriously, check out her website.

When Amanda found Gabby Bernstein’s Spirit Junkie Masterclass, she felt like here was this woman living her truth and giving Amanda permission to live her own truth. Powerful stuff. And she’s never looked back. If you’re thinking about taking the masterclass, just follow your heart.

Amanda’s tips for stepping into your entrepreneurial, successful self:

  • Become unavailable for “hard” - stop thinking you need to work hard to make it.
  • Change your thinking around money. Go through every single thought you’ve had about money - when your mum didn’t buy you those shoes, what your dad said about making an income, that time the guy didn’t pay for dinner, whatever comes up - and how those thoughts make you feel. And then read through them and think “What if these aren’t true?” Realize that there is another way to see this.
  • Be aware that your internal world will spill out into your external world - that’s why you’ve got to do the inner work.
  • Realize how powerful you are. You have the power to get anything you want. You just have to believe it.

If you’re ready to change your mindset around money and attract abundance into your life, then check out Amanda’s free Boss Lady Meditations. You can also get on the waiting list for her Money Mentality Makeover - even if you don’t sign up, you’ll get a ton of free content that will help you do the inner work so you can attract more abundance.

And if you’re ready to step into your truth and be a spiritual boss babe, then check out Gabby Bernstein’s latest video. You really don’t want to miss this special invitation.

Kundalini teacher, spiritual coach, comedian, speaker, all-round entrepreneurial superstar… Danielle Mercurio is a gypsy of all trades, she is living her truth.

It wasn’t always that way. As a child she dreamed of being a performer, but it felt out of reach. Ok for others, but not for her. Instead, she tried to do what she was supposed to do. How many of us do exactly that - work a job because we think it’s what we’re meant to? That kind of living catches up with you. After years of partying to escape the fact she wasn’t being true to herself, and too many mornings waking up not knowing what happened the night before, Danielle had a spiritual awakening. She saw that the mess of her life was an opportunity to explore what was on the other side.

It wasn’t a smooth ride. Self-love was way off, too difficult to reach. So Danielle designed strategies to get to self-ok, where she could simply show up for her life. That ok-ness soon became liking herself, and with the help of Kundalini yoga, and Gabby Bernstein’s Spirit Junkie Masterclass (she was one of the first people to sign up, ever), she was able to completely surrender to the flow and abundance of the universe, and find her path. She gave herself permission to get out of her corporate job and into the life she really wanted: spiritual entrepreneur, life coach, self-help comedian, speaker and podcaster.

Does this resonate with you? So many of us have that feeling inside that we’re not doing what we are truly supposed to. We have all these great ideas, but because we seek validation from external sources, we never give ourselves that go-ahead to take action. But the fact you’re here today, and feeling that desire to set up a food business or do life coaching or become a spiritual entrepreneur, that is the universe giving you permission.

And right now, there is no better time to go for it. You do not need external permission to start a YouTube channel, or a podcast, or a blog, or to start that spiritual business. If you have a passion, if it feels like your current job is standing in the way of your ideal life, and it is becoming irresponsible not to follow your dreams, then you owe it to yourself (and the world) to take steps towards your living your highest purpose.

The most important step you can take is checking out Gabby Bernstein’s latest video, where she shares a special invitation, a shout-out to all those who want to inspire others by doing what inspires them.

Gabby Bernstein’s Spirit Junkie Digital Masterclass will give you all the tools you need to gain the confidence you need to own your purpose, take spiritually aligned action, and create massive transformations in your career and your life. You will:

Gabby Bernstein: Share your gifts with the world

It’s not ok to accept money for your skills.

It’s imperative.

It is our responsibility to give our gifts to the world. Your story can change someone’s life - it can even save someone’s life.

This world needs more transformational teachers. It’s less about having a really fun career (even though that is an awesome part of it) and more about how you can be of service to the world - and how you do that is by sharing your authentic self, your wisdom, and your unique talents. If we don’t accept abundance for doing that work, then we’re not able to do that work. The consequence is that you don’t just deny yourself the life you dream of, but you also deny the world a service it desperately needs right now. You need to be unapologetic about your abundance.

But this is hard, right? So many of us hold on to stories that keep us stuck in financial fear. We feel it’s wrong to accept money for spiritual work, or don’t really believe we can make a living doing what we love, or we align with our parents’ story that working a job you don’t like is essential to earning money. These are all lies that stop you from sharing your gifts and showing up in a bigger way.

But there’s a lot you can do to free yourself from those old beliefs, change your financial story and open yourself up to abundance. In Gabby Bernstein’s third video training, she will teach you how to make publicity and marketing fun (instead of scary), how you can make an impact doing what you love, plus her secret method for really standing out and being heard. Go to www.foodhealsnation.com/gabby to check it out!

Kesley Dalziel: Your Intuition will guide you

Founder of the Sisterhood of TiredAss Moms, medium, meditation teacher and coach Kelsey Dalziel is a true inspiration (check out Episode 160 for her story). She went from doing nails and being a depressed exhausted mom to achieving her dream: helping other tired-ass moms go from survival mode to thrival mode, and set up their own businesses. Taking Gabby Bernstein’s Spirit Junkie Masterclass gave Kelsey the confidence she needed to follow her heart and take that leap; it put her in touch with the best business partner ever: the Universe.

Kelsey believes you already know where you need to be. But fear and self-doubt stop you from being clear and going for your goals. If you feel unsure what to do next, just ask. Your intuition, the universe, your spirit guides are all offering guidance, all you need to do is pay attention.

Laura Petersen: You ARE an expert

Laura owns Copy that Pops, a brand that helps entrepreneurs who are passionate about making a difference to become best-selling authors and share their story in a compelling, engaging, authentic way. Laura has written two books: Copywriting for Podcasters and Permission to Write a Brand Building Book.

Laura’s favorite thing to do is making people Amazon best-sellers! Her masterclasses help people go from the idea stage to the writing, publishing (or self-publishing) and marketing stage. Her group and inner circle provide the support you need to make your brand grow and really pop. So you can take it to the next level.

And if you’re thinking “who am I to write a book?” stop. Your goal is not to impress other gurus, your goal is to help someone. You can do that even if you’re just a couple of steps ahead of the person you’re writing for. In fact, you’re in a better position to help because you know what it feels like to be in that place. You ARE expert enough, and it’s your duty to share your knowledge.

Michele PW: Selling with love instead of fear

Michele is a fellow podcaster and best-selling author of the Love-Based Business series of books. Her mission is to help people feel all their feelings so they don’t let their feelings control their actions. She discovered her love-based philosophy through love-based copy writing. Instead of getting sales through fear, she realized that she could build a business through love. Head over to her Love Based Biz Blog to get tips on how to sell from a place of love.

Most of us don’t put money and love in the same box. But the truth is that unless we shift our mindset, we block abundance. What are your financial beliefs? So many of us think rich people are evil, that money doesn’t grow on trees, that it’s never there, that it goes out quicker than it comes in, that you have to work hard for it. What kind of energy is that putting out? A great way to start transforming your relationship with money is to examine your beliefs and underlying feelings around it. What comes up for you when you think about money? Decide how you want to feel about it, and start putting that out there. When you approach your finances from a place of love and abundance, you open the door for that abundance to flow towards you. We love Michele’s podcast Love-Based Money.

If you’ve been dreaming of setting up your own business but are holding yourself back through fear, doubt, or feeling that you are not good enough, then you need to check out Gabby Bernstein’s free training. In this video, she shares her secret methods to being seen and heard - and if you’re worried about marketing, she’ll show you how to make it FUN. Click here.

One book has created more millionaires than any other source in history. It’s so good, it’s on Oprah Winfrey and Jim Carrey’s reading lists! Written by Napoleon Hill in 1937, the groundbreaking book Think and Grow Rich is a collection of strategies from the most powerful businessmen of that time. The original how-to guidebook to financial freedom has now been made into a film and been rewritten for a modern audience.

James Whittaker grew up with an appreciation of what it means to be engaged in personal finance. Because of that, he naturally got into financial planning and spent 10 years in the industry before he finally followed his childhood dream and started his own business. He soon figured out that what he really wanted to do with his life was help people take ownership of their financial, physical and mental health. A chance meeting with the film-makers of Think and Grow Rich: The Legacy provided him with the perfect opportunity to do just that by writing the updated version of the original classic.

What does it mean to be rich? It goes beyond how many Ferraris you have parked on the driveway. Having a rich life means experiencing abundance in all areas of your life: your health, your relationships, your work, your day-to-day living.

Here are some of James’s tips for experiencing abundance in mind, body, spirit and finances:

  • Get clear about what you want: It’s natural to worry about the past, but those feelings are stronger because you’re unsure about the future. Get clear about your perfect life destination and begin taking daily steps to get there (the 5-minute journal is great for this)
  • Embrace the struggle: nothing moves when you’re in your comfort zone. When you’re uncomfortable, that’s when great things happen.
  • Identify your limiting beliefs and work to eliminate them.
  • Think about your environment: Are you hanging around energy vampires?
  • Figure out ways to be more effective every day. Can you delegate any tasks? Or re-arrange your routine? Keep it simple and consistent.
  • Make a positive contribution to every day.
  • Don’t fall prey to magical thinking: You have to take action.
  • Focus on winning the day: live with more intent, more purpose and more passion.

Imagine you could earn a great living doing what you love. I bet you started dismissing that idea as soon as it entered your head. Maybe you think it isn’t spiritual to charge for your services, or you don’t believe it’s realistic to make money following your passion. The problem with that kind of fear is that it blocks your abundance!

My dear friend, #1 New York Times bestselling author Gabby Bernstein, busts those myths in this new free training video — The 3 Major Blocks to Your Abundance and How to Fix Them!

Here’s what you can expect from this free training:

- Gabby’s proven process for making your purpose your profession

- How to earn a great living doing what you love

Today’s episode is brought to you by Gabby Bernstein’s Spirit Junkie Masterclass.

When you’re on a journey of spiritual growth and transformation, pretty amazing things can happen. There comes a point when you hear the call to share the lessons you have learned in your life. That’s exactly what happened for today’s guests: Phil and Matt, aka The Vegan Bros.

Serial entrepreneurs Matt and Phil are experts in the field of veganism and the science and art of social change. They’ve featured in Vice, Business Insider, the Guardian and many more. Their views on veganism may be polarizing, but we love their passion, drive and mission.

No one could ever guess that the obese kid and the skinny socially awkward kid, raised in a “Jesus club on acid” environment (the kind where vegetarians are considered a strange subspecies, and where drinking alcohol sends you straight to hell) would end up revolutionizing the world. But Matt and Phil believe everything in life happens for a reason and challenges only make you a stronger, wiser person. Having been through some crazy shit - from being offered hypertension medication at just 20 years old and losing 100 pounds, to being a vegan animal activist in a small town in deepest darkest bible-belt America - now, the Vegan Bros’ mission is to bring the vegan world and the rest of the world together.

Their book, Vodka is Vegan: A Manifesto For Better Living And Not Being An Asshole is the definitive guide to becoming a vegan, without any of the drama or judgement that usually comes with it. If you’re opposed to animal abuse, you’re already 90% vegan - your diet is just the last 10%. But you might feel like making that change isn’t easy! If you’ve spent your entire life eating meat, going vegan can feel like a huge mountain to climb. You don’t need to be stressing out over whether or not you can call yourself vegan if you eat honey, or whether eating an Impossible Burger makes you a “fake vegan.” The way to start is using Matt and Phil’s foot-in-the-door technique: take it slow, go at your own pace and find what works for YOU. Start with a shot of vodka (it’s vegan, after all, and gluten free). And keep an open mind: most of what you already eat is accidentally vegan. The transition doesn’t have to be painful! The Vegan Bros advocate an inclusive, judgement-free approach to going vegan. You can change a couple of things on your plate, and save the world - seriously.

Get your copy of Vodka is Vegan and let The Vegan Bros guide you on an effortless 14-week trip into plant-based living. It’s out NOW, and you can also get it on Audible.

If, like Matt and Phil, you have an amazing story to share, then you need to check out Gabby Bernstein’s FREE 3-part video training that will get you into action to be abundant and make a living doing what you love.

In this first video, Gabby shares 3 steps you can take to truly own your confidence and get into action now.

She took these 3 steps to become a speaker, author and public figure with zero background in her field.

Like Gabby, you’ll gain the confidence to embrace the fact that you have a divine purpose — and start taking inspired action so it can unfold.

These days, everyone’s got back pain. In fact, that’s the number one reason people go to their doctor! 80% of Americans experience lower back pain at some point in their lives. No surprise really, since we spend much of our time sitting - at our desks, on our sofas, in our cars - or hunched over our cellphones. Poor posture is definitely to blame. And you might be surprised to know that it also affects how you feel.

Growing up, Dr. Krista Burns wanted nothing more than to be a professional skier. But a back injury put an end to that dream, and conventional treatment only made matters worse. She knew there had to be a way to heal herself. After obtaining her first doctorate, she designed a 3-component system to address back pain. Through spinal alignment, posture rehabilitation and posture habit re-education, she freed herself from the chronic pain she had been experiencing for years. Since then, she has been determined to help people prevent and overcome back problems.

Dr. Krista is now a certified chiropractic doctor, inspiring public speaker, and published author. She’s co-founded the American Posture Institute, where she and her team train healthcare providers to teach their patients proper posture. She’s also the brains behind www.posturearchetype.com, check out the website and take the free assessment to check your own posture archetype and receive a postural transformation solution designed specifically for you.

How you stand affects your mood

How you stand directly impacts how you feel. Similarly, how you feel directly impacts how you stand. When you feel depressed, you hunch your shoulders, cross your arms, hold your head low. When you feel uplifted, you stand straight, shoulders back, head held high. But at any moment you can choose to feel uplifted, or choose to feel depressed. By changing your posture, you can achieve a new emotional state. This fact is supported by science. Studies have shown that people with poor posture are more likely to experience negative moods and be self-critical. In the same way, people with good posture are happier, feel more confident, have a positive body image. You have the power to change your mood, simply by changing how you hold your body.

Dr. Krista’s tips to get relief from back pain:

  • Get to the root cause of your pain (take the archetype assessment)
  • Move the area where you feel pain
  • Strengthen your core - it will help support your spine and maintain postural alignment
  • Bring your cellphone or laptop up to eye level so you’re not constantly looking down in a slumped posture. Avoid tech-neck!
  • Create an active workspace. Standing desk, active sitting (like sitting on an exercise ball or posture cushion).
  • Take frequent posture breaks; get up and stretch.
  • Use a posture reminder - this will help you create long lasting back-friendly habits.
  • Have a postural evaluation every year, just like you’d have a health check.

Eco Vegan Gal Whitney Lauritsen’s tips to go vegan:

  • You don’t need to be perfect. Allow yourself time to transition.
  • Don’t be afraid of what other people think.
  • There’s a lot to learn about veganism; it’s harder than going vegetarian. Give yourself the resources (podcasts, documentaries, blogs, etc.) to make it easier to transition.
  • Add more plants to your diet; we’ve got some great tips for this coming up in Episode 204 with Vegan Bros!
  • Reach out to a vegan community. www.ecoveganpal.com is a great resource and supportive plant-based network.
  • Replace non-vegan foods you love with delicious plant-based versions. Shop online if there are no options near you: www.happycow.com, www.veganessentials.com, and www.thrivemarket.com are good places to start.
  • Make your own delicious vegan food by getting inspiration online. Try the Plan to Eat app to find recipes, meal plans and shopping lists.
  • Check out Whitney’s book Healthy Organic Vegan on a Budget: www.veganebook.com

Alison Burgos wasn’t always into plant-based food. In fact, she didn’t enjoy vegan food at all! It took a severe health condition to get her to completely re-think her lifestyle.

At just forty years old, Alison was morbidly obese and confined to a wheelchair. Rheumatoid arthritis had attacked her joints to such a degree that she couldn’t move without excruciating pain. The best doctors in the world prescribed steroids and drugs, but did nothing to combat the inflammation. At her wit’s end, Alison decided to take matters into her own hands and, with her wife and friends’ support, went on a 90-day raw cleanse. Her inflammation disappeared.

What started as a personal health journey has turned into a desire to help others make conscious choices about what they eat, and see how positive and powerful those choices can be. The Seed, Food and Wine festival was born.

And we’re so excited to invite you to join us there.

The Seed Food & Wine LA and Eat Drink Vegan events are happening THIS WEEK, May 23rd to 26th. It’s more than just a festival, it’s a movement driven by passionate people dedicated to raising awareness around veganism, holistic health, sustainability and animal welfare. Their mission is to elevate the conversation and get people connected to the transformational power of food. All your favorite vegan content creators will be there, as well as the country’s best plant-based chefs, artists, designers, influencers and authors. Get ready for delicious vegan food (plus wine, and cocktails!), talks, presentations, cooking demos, inspiration and lots of fun live events… oh and a ton of free swag! Get your tickets right now and use the coupon code “wellness” to get $10 off any event (including the Fashion Show, Seed Summit, Grand Tasting, 5k Run and Yoga, and Eat Drink Vegan). Our favorite functional medicine expert, Dr. Stephen Cabral, has spent decades researching all forms of medicine. He believes they all have a place, and can all be used to bring about health. His mission is to help people go from chronic pain, depression and disease to a state of vitality and happiness.

Check out Episode 186 where Dr. Cabral shares how he healed himself and tells us all about intermittent fasting, detoxing and Ayurvedic medicine.

What is Disease?

A simplified way to look at disease is this: people either get sick because of toxicity, or because of deficiency. If we can address the deficiencies (by supplementing vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc.) and begin to remove the toxicities (such as excess hormones, plastics, etc.), we can heal anything.

Western Medicine vs Functional Medicine

Unfortunately, the goal of conventional medicine is not to get better. It just addresses the symptoms. So, for example, high cholesterol is just a symptom (or sign) that there is a deeper issue, like an auto-immune condition or excess toxins. Conventional medicine will prescribe drugs to manage the symptoms without getting to the underlying root cause. They might make you feel a bit better in the short term, but they don’t provide long-term benefits. On the other hand, functional medicine will look at what might be causing the condition, and help you bring your body back into a state of healthy balance. That said, if you’re suffering a heart attack, you’re better off heading to the emergency room rather than your natural health doctor!

Your Health and The Rain Barrel Effect

Your body is in a constant state of homeostasis: it is always trying to return to a healthy balance. This means that it can deal with a lot (of stress, junk food, toxins) before finally disease shows up in your blood tests. It’s what Dr. Cabral calls the “rain barrel effect,” which is also the title of his best-selling book. Your rain barrel is essentially your toxic load. If it’s overflowing, your health suffers. You need to empty it out - to clear your toxicity - in order to bring your body back into balance.

How to Heal Your Body

According to Dr. Cabral, you can heal anything within 12 to 16 weeks (3-4 months). That’s because all your red blood cells turn over every 90-120 days (also 3-4 months). As this happens your mitochondria (your cells’ energy stores) are replenished with nutrients, you’ll have more energy and fewer symptoms. Diet is a huge part of that journey, but you need to take a holistic approach. Addressing food without overcoming emotional trauma just won’t work. A lot of our disease comes from our emotions.

Where to Begin?

A great way to find out what is happening in your body is to have functional tests done. These will look at markers that conventional medicine usually ignores, to give you a complete picture of what is going on with your health right now. You can order these tests on Dr. Cabral’s online store. Dr. Cabral will read through them and you’ll get a phone call from one of his team’s health coaches to discuss the results.

Dr. Cabral’s Weight Loss and Detox Tips:

  • Forget about crash diets or regimes, they are not sustainable and don’t work long term.
  • Crowd out the bad foods with nourishing foods (plant based whole foods are your friends here).
  • Don’t graze all day long, allow your body 4-5 hours between meals to give your cortisol levels a chance to level out.
  • Reset your circadian rhythm - your body detoxifies from around 10pm.
  • Eat foods that support your liver detoxification (like cruciferous veg: broccoli, kale, etc.).
  • Try Dr. Cabral’s detox shakes or his detox protocol.

Dr. Cabral and Leslie Durso’s Healthy Travel Tips:

  • Get your antibacterial wipes and wipe everything around you - planes are never cleaned.
  • Get a good night’s sleep before your flight.
  • Avoid alcohol, coffee or tea on the plane, and drink a lot of water (that said, a glass of wine will help you sleep on those super long flights).
  • Ramp up your immune system a few days before: take plenty of vitamin c, zinc and green juices.
  • Fast so that your energy can be focused on protecting your body from germs and toxins (like flame retardants and bug sprays) rather than digesting food.
  • Never eat airplane food - it’s microwaved and full of preservatives.
  • Bring your own health supplements.

She makes green sexy and cool, she’s a best-selling author and eco Marry Poppins for the new Millennium. We couldn’t think of anyone better to celebrate 200 episodes of the Food Heals Podcast: the gorgeous Sophie Uliano.

If you’ve tried and tried to make good habits stick but never quite got there, Sophie’s got the perfect event for you.

But first, we’re going to bust some health & beauty myths.

Myth 1: Synthetic chemicals are bad, and “natural” ingredients always better and safer.

Well, first off, the term “natural” is not regulated at all, so anyone can put that on their label. And when it comes to synthetics, well, that just means “made in a lab.” Let’s take the top four ingredients that really make a difference to your skin: Vitamin C (in the form of ascorbic acid), retinoids, hydroxyacids and peptides. These need to be used in their synthetic forms to be stable. They might be “chemicals” but they’re completely safe for your skin.

Best Skin Care Ingredients to Fade Sun Spots Fast:

  • For sensitive skin/prone to breakouts: beta hydroxyl acid (BHA) that contains willow bark which will also gets rid of your black heads.
  • For not so sensitive skin: alpha hydroxy acid to melt away the dead skin cells and reveal your glow.
  • Our favorite brands: Sunshine Botanicals Pumpkin Power Peal; Alpha H; MyChell.

Myth 2: Everyone should use retinols.

Yes, but also no. Actually, retinols are something everyone should use because as our skin gets older, it thins - that’s what makes under eyes appearing darker. Retinoids help to thicken skin. BUT prescription-strength retinoids can be too harsh and cause damage. It’s all in the dosage. You need a tiny amount, and if your skin is sensitive you need to look out for the gentler forms of retinol.

Myth 3: Lectins are really bad for you.

Lectins are protein molecules found in almost all vegetables. They’re the plant’s protection mechanism, so can cause digestive upset if eaten raw because some lectins are toxic, for example the ones found in red kidney beans (phytohaemagglutinin) - which is why you should never eat a raw bean!

But lately everyone’s been talking about how bad they are for you, and how “dangerous” it may be to eat plants. Let’s get real: there’s no way eating a wholefoods plant-based diet is ever dangerous. It’s the most natural way of eating. What’s more, most lectins are destroyed by cooking.

Myth 4: Juicing is better than smoothies.

Juices are great, but smoothies are better. Mother Nature created the whole fruit - when you juice you take out so many of the healing nutrients, like the fiber, which keeps your digestive system ticking over nicely. It’s important to eat the whole plant, and smoothies help you do exactly that. Smoothies win.

We all want to be fit. But who wants to go to a gym ever day? And what if lifting weights actually bulks you up rather than slim you down? With all the conflicting information out there, you can’t get your head around the right foods to eat before and after a workout. It’s exhausting trying to figure out the best fitness strategies to lose weight and feel great. That’s where today’s guests can offer you some invaluable advice: what they don’t know about fitness is not worth knowing.

Devon’s dive into wellness dates back to her late 20’s. Despite being a dancer and appearing slim and healthy, she had a disordered relationship with food, and was pre-diabetic and peri-menopausal, which means her blood sugar and hormones were completely out of balance. Through a combination of Gyrotonic training, holistic anti-aging strategies and nutrition, Devon completely healed her Lyme disease, balanced her hormones and now feels healthier than ever.

For Rob, health was just about aesthetics. It was about looking good. Flash-forward 10 years, and an unfortunate honeymoon photo made Rob realize that his “just work out and don’t worry about the food” theory had resulted in a big gut – he looked the worse he’d ever looked. Now, he’s shed 30 pounds and looks 10 years younger!

Together, Rob and Devon are the dynamic duo behind Open Sky Fitness. Their podcast combines expert interviews with in depth looks at the latest in wellness and workouts. They also offer one on-one coaching and group challenges for people who are really serious about getting fit. You can get their free book for the secrets to jump-starting your workout in just 3 days here. Or if you have any questions, you can contact Rob and Devon by email at rob@opensky.com or devon@opensky.com.

We all want to be beautiful. But at what cost? A conventional lipstick might make us pretty for the day, but the buildup of toxic ingredients can have devastating long-term effects on our health. And what about the cost to animals? Each year, up to a million dogs, rabbits and mice are tortured and die because of our self-care products.

Ericka Rodriguez had worn the same mascara for 10 years before she read the ingredients label and discovered the dark side of her make-up. But finding fun, colorful, organic, vegan and cruelty free alternatives was tough. So she decided to make her own: Axiology was born.

Where most lipsticks contain upwards of 23 ingredients, Axiology lipsticks contain around 10, with no scary chemicals in sight. Her products are made from things most of us have in our kitchens or bathrooms: avocado butter, coconut oil, calendula wax, neem oil, elderberry extract. Better still, the packaging is made by a recycled-paper company run by women whose aim is to address the trash issue in Bali. If you want make-up that’s kind to the animals, the planet and your body, this is it.

Axiology’s ethos is to give women the opportunity to get creative with their make-up without having to worry about toxic ingredients or animal cruelty.

Asher Brown stopped eating meat when he was just 9 years old. He realized if could ask what the cow might want, it would not want to be eaten.

It wasn’t easy being the only vegetarian in his family; his mom worried he might never grow up big and strong without meat. But his parents supported him and at 20, he went from vegetarian to vegan.

However, like many of us, he was an apologetic vegan. He didn’t want to make others uncomfortable, didn’t want to be the odd one out or the “awkward” guy at the dinner table.

But when he got hired to make videos for Beyond Meat, all that changed—he found his voice.

He discovered Vegan Instagram, and that he was part of a group of millions of vegans around the world, standing up for the animals.

That sparked his move into activism.

Asher began speaking at conferences, connecting with other vegans, and working for vegan brands.

Asher Brown is the founder of Pollution TV, a content agency that works solely with ethical companies and conscious brands to spread vegan awareness and lead social change. He’s also recently launched a plant-based cooking show with a difference: High Cuisine, where two cannabis-infused chefs cook up vegan dishes, with some surprising results! You can watch the show for free on Go90.com

Going plant-powered isn’t about what you’re giving up, it’s about what you get. We can do so much good in the world, and it comes down to what we choose to put on our plates each day.

Eating vegan for one day saves one animal a day.

Choosing plants over meat makes a difference. Asher says, if you care about the world, your health, having enough food to feed the entire planet, social justice: eat more plants. Simple.

Your diet is your chance every day to reflect on yourself, your body, your surroundings. It’s more than just about your meal, it’s about the wider world.

When it comes to health, golden girl of the wellness world Candice Kumai knows her stuff! A classically trained chef, model, journalist, TV host and best-selling author, she bridges the gap between the West and traditional Japanese culture.

Brought up in a Japanese-Polish household, Candice was always fascinated by cooking and loved bringing people together with food. She paid her way through culinary school with modelling, before appearing on Top Chef. A decade later, she’s an internationally acclaimed author, wellness influencer, and a living example of how to live and be well while running a business in the city.

Magazines that promise better sex and abs tomorrow are great, but they won’t improve your life. A better life comes from sharing, being open-hearted, self-love, kindness, doing your best and celebrating imperfections. That’s where Candice’s new book comes in.

Kintsugi Wellness is based on the untold story of Candice’s Japanese heritage and is a perfectly imperfect guide to nourishing your mind, body and spirit. Kintsugi means “the art of golden repair.” In Japanese tradition, when you break an object you put it back together with lacquer and gold dust, and make it even more beautiful as a piece of art. The same is true of ourselves.

We are more beautiful with our cracks showing—all the tough times we’ve been through, struggles, painful relationships, illness. These cracks are the scars that show our beauty as a person who has lived. We can heal those scars through living and loving. When you cultivate self-love, everything falls into place. Whatever you want to achieve begins with loving yourself.

Kintsugi Wellness drops on April 17th, and you can pre-order here. The book contains 12 Japanese principles to help shape your life and over 40 delicious, healthy Japanese-Californian recipes. A perfect gift for a friend or for yourself!
